n 1996, Karl Giesing started recording his tape-loop compositions and noise assemblages. It was at this time that he adopted the name Karlheinz for his musical persona. The name was given to him by Keith Fullerton Whitman, after German electronic composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, a musical influence common to both Karl and Keith. From 1998-2000, Karlheinz was one half of the explosive percussion-and-electronics duo Lord and Karlheinz (Max Lord being the other half).
