Juan Amenábar Ruiz (b. Santiago, Chile, 1922 - d. Santiago, Chile, 1999), engineer and composer, began experimenting with electroacoustic music techniques in 1953, completing Los Peces, his first tape piece, in 1957. Los Peces is an electroacoustic work based on tape manipulations of recorded piano sounds, to which Amenabar applied the Fibonacci series. In 1957, Amenabar co-founded a studio at the Catholic University, the Taller Experimental de Sonido (Experimental Sound Workshop).
