Josep Picanyol (Barcelona, c. 1700 - Madrid, 1757 or after) was a Catalan presbyter, chapel master and composer. Most of the relevant aspects regarding his life are unknown. He was probably born in Barcelona and trained in the Cathedral of Barcelona with Francisco Valls, being appointed as an assistant to the master in 1734.1 2 He replaced Tomàs Milans in the direction of the music chapel of the Palace of the Countess in October 1714 - there he had Josep Masvasí as a disciple.
