About Johannes Sarton

Johannes Sarton is one of the “mystery” names preserved by the 1539 Strasbourg motet anthology printed by Peter Schöffer. In today’s revival of that repertory—especially the Delphian recording by Siglo de Oro under Patrick Allies in collaboration with musicologist Daniel Trocmé-Latter—Sarton is credited with the five-voice motet Haec dies quam fecit, a piece singled out by reviewers for its memorable “noe, noe” refrains.
