Jean de Maletty was a French composer active during the last third of the 16th century in the South of France. The title pages of his editions are clear: he was born in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume (Var), on a date still unknown. His two volumes of music on the Amours de Ronsard appeared in Paris in 1578 with Adrian Le Roy and Robert Ballard, dedicated to relatives and not to noble protectors as is often the case. The poem that begins the first volume suggests that he went to work (or learn?) in Italy:
