Jacques Charlier (b. 1939, Liège, Belgium) is a self-taught artist who has been making biting, radically eclectic work since the early 1960s. His process is defined by his critical and humorous approach to society, the art world and the current clichés regarding the avant-garde. As a musician, Charlier performed with a punk group, Terril (never recorded), took inspiration from the minimalist sounds of Glass, Reich, La Monte Young, Cage, and Meredith Monk, performing psychoacoustic pieces throughout the 1970s.
