A group of Pakistani musicians who recorded in the 1950s music labeled as snake charming, even though it is generally considered to be part of traditional Sufi trance music. Many snake charmers are found in India, and in the 20th century the "art" of snake charming grew in popularity until the Indian government forbid people from owning serpents - snakes being holy in the Hindi religion.
