Hogle Lab (pronounced HO-gul, not HA-gul or HAW-gul) started in 1999 by Josh Benson, seeking to created a musical outlet for his teenaged angst. Raised on Barry Manilow, and fond of New Romantic (80's music) and Electronic music, Benson started to compose songs with a Roland D-10 and cassette recorder. The earliest recordings sound much like a primitive-sounding Depeche Mode, although it wasn't until much later, after Benson started listening to futurepop bands such as Assemblage 23 and Apoptygma Berzerk that this realization was made.
