About Giuseppe Balzano
Giuseppe Balzano (09/09/1616 - 23/02/1700) was a Maltese composer from Valletta. After being ordained a priest in 1640 in Catania, he became choirmaster of the Cathedral of Mdina in 1661. He retained this position until 1699, with the exception of the periods 1665-9 and 1673-4, during which he went to Naples to perfect musically. Despite the numerous works (inventoried in 1707) composed by him, only a few can glimpse a high level of technical competence (which follow the typical polyphonic style of the sixteenth century).
