About Giovanni Battista Mariani
Giovanni Battista Mariani (Fossombrone, c. 1634 - Rome, after 1697) was an Italian composer. He was born in Fossombrone (Pesaro and Urbino) in about 1634. In the years 1656-58 he resided in Rome, being in the service of Giberto Pio of Savoy, prince of S. Gregorio. Subsequently he passed to the employ of Cardinal Carlo Pio of Savoy , in whose palace he still lived in 1689. For this reason, in some sources of the time he is also mentioned as Giovan Battista di Pio.
