Gholam Ali Poor Atayi (Persian: غلامعلی پورعطایی) was born in 1948 in Torbat-e Jam, Khorasan, Iran. He himself says that he started to learn dotar and singing from his mother when he was 8 or 9 and became familiar with poets from Hafiz, Sa’di, Ferdowsi, Abdolrahman Jami and also folklore poems. He continued learning singing from Molla Shahab-edin Shirmohammadi, Yousef Khan Teymouri, Abdolhamid Ayoub Khan and Mansour Batouri and also Dotar from Zolfaghar Asgaryian.
