Gene Stuart played in a few bands but got his big break when Larry Cunningham left the Mighty Avons. He replace Larry in 1969 and had success for about 4 years until he fell ill in 1973. His absence of 6 months meant that the original band members had changed and soon after returning he fomed a new band and had many successes as Gene Stuart and the Homesteaders.
