About Gangubai Hangal
Dr.Gangubai Hangal was born in Dharwad on 5th March in 1913. Her mother initiated her into music and she took her early training under late Sri.Hulgur Krishnacharya. She took her advanced training later under late Sri Sawai Gandharva, a disciple of late Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, the main architect of Kirana Gharana. One of the foremost exponents of the Kirana Gharana in our times, Gangubai has enriched the tradition by her own unique, uncompromising style.
