Friedrich Johann Eck was a German violinist and composer, born May 25, 1767 in Schwetzingen and died February 22, 1838 in Paris. His father, Georg, a horn player, was originally from Bohemia and attached to the court of Mannheim (later in Munich). Eck studied in 1786 with Viotti, then was for 10 years a member of an orchestra in Munich and, from 1788, conductor of operas. After 1801 he moved to Nancy and Paris. Previously, during a visit to Vienna, he gave Viotti's Concerto No. 16 to Mozart, for which he improved the orchestration.
