Friedrich Erhard Niedt (baptized 31 May 1674, Jena) was a German jurist and notary who also became known as a music theorist and composer in the early eighteenth century. He is associated with Jena in his student years and with later activity connected to Hamburg and Copenhagen. Niedt’s reputation rests chiefly on his practical, keyboard-centred teaching in thoroughbass and composition, issued in print as the multi-part Musicalische Handleitung
