About Freak Paeans
He was a cavalry officer, managing director of a sawmill and ship owner in Kristiania (now Oslo) - and a great sail training ship enthusiast. He did not have any heirs and, in 1884, decided to donate NOK 90.000,- to the building of a new sailing training ship. The only condition was that the ship must carry his name. Thanks to this donation, the efforts to find the town a new ship were increased. The board of the Foundation had been offered to buy "Transatlantic" ex "Mersey," an 1847 gr.
