Francisco de Montanos (Valladolid?, c. 1528 - After October 6, 1595) was a Spanish poet, composer, musical theorist and Maestro de capilla. Little is known about the teacher. The little that is known comes from his treatise Arte de Música teórica y práctica (1592), where in two epigrams he insinuates that he came from a wealthy family and in an annotation at the end that he had been a chapel master for 36 years, so in 1551 he already had to be a chapel master. The musicologist Aizpurúa was likely in 1983 that Montanos was from Valladolid.
