Led by the band's principal songwriter, Michael Smith, Fiction 8 has existed in one incarnation or another since 1993 when they were originally known as Creeping Eruption. After a series of compilation appearances garnered them a reputation as a cult industrial dance band, Discordia Records (Germany) signed Fiction 8 and released their first album "Dissonance*InDifference" in 1996. Though the album achieved critical acclaim, any success it might have enjoyed ended abruptly when Discordia folded later that year.
