In 1984 a young Musician and Producer by the name of Rick Rubin, and a Concert Promoter and Artist Manager named Russell Simmons merged together to jump start Def Jam Records. Rick Rubin's musical background in Rock/Punk combined with Russell's Simmons roots in Hip-Hop music blended seamlessly to give birth to a new sound and attitude that would seize the early 1980's music charts and popular culture.
