De vijfmansformatie 'envy the west' uit Roosendaal speelt gruizige indie met sporen van country. 'Cave, Cash, Cohen en Curtis dancing on prozac' werd ooit typerend over de muziek van deze band geschreven. Daarmee is niet alles gezegd natuurlijk. Envy the west onderscheidt zich vooral door de oorspronkelijke songs en de speelse arrangementen die misschien wel dankzij het nogal slordige karakter van de band zo treffend zijn. In het najaar van 2001 komt het vijftal voor het eerst samen.
