About Ensemble 21

Ensemble 21 was founded in 1993 by Jason Eckardt (composer) and Marilyn Nonken (pianist) in New York City. They are known for commisioning new works from relatively unknown and/or emerging American composers. They are also known for performing the works of innovative European composers seldom played in the U.S., particularly those associated with Spectralism. Their performances have included such diverse composers as Milton Babbitt, Jeane Baraque, Jonathon Harvey, David Rakowski, Morton Feldman, and Stockhausen among others.
