
About Elena Ruehr
Elena Ruehr (b.1963) is an American composer and musician. She studied composition at the University of Michigan and the Juilliard School. She teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has been composer in residence with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project since September 2000. Ruehr has composed numerous works, including Toussaint Before the Spirits, which premiered in 2003. The opera is based on Madison Smartt Bell's novels about the Haitian revolution.
