Driving Past are the songwriting vehicle for highly-regarded Melbourne poet Gig Ryan, whose poetry collections Pure And Applied (1998) and Heroic Money (2001) are both acerbic and essential. Gig spent time in Sydney in the 80s and played in the band Disband, before returning to Melbourne in the mid 90s and forming the spiky, spidery and compelling Driving Past with David Nichols (ex Cannanes, Huon etc), Mia Schoen (Sleepy Township, New Estate) and Andrew Withycombe (Cat's Miaow, Hydroplane etc).
