Matthew Boardman & Alan Gubby formed Daz Odeum at secondary school in 1980. The bands name was taken from a postcard for a Greek amphitheatre. Inspired by Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Cabaret Voltaire, Fad Gadget and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, they were given generous access to the music department's Wasp synthesiser, added a couple of Casio VL Tones, some pots, pans, reel to reel tape recorders and echo boxes then started performing at parents evenings and school discos.
