
Dame Cleo Laine, Lady Dankworth DBE (born Clementina Dinah Campbell in Southall, Middlesex, on 28 October 1927; died 24 July 2025) was a jazz singer and an actor remembered for her scat singing (a form of vocal improvisation) and for being the only person to have received Grammy nominations in the jazz, popular and classical music awards. Among her many awards were a Lifetime Achievement Award from the U.S. recording industry in 1991, a Jazz Lifetime Achievement Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians in 1998
