
Cassini-Huygens, a joint U.S.-European mission to Saturn and its moon Titan, was launched October 15, 1997, flew past the planets Venus, Earth, and Jupiter, and entered Saturn orbit July 1, 2004. One of the major scientific instruments aboard is RPWS which is gathering data for the Radio and Plasma Wave Science investigation. The RPWS team Principal Investigator is Professor Donald Gurnett of The University of Iowa Department of Physics and Astronomy, where much of the flight hardware and software was developed.
