Levester "Big Lucky" Carter (born Feb. 10, 1920 in Weir, Choctaw County, Mississippi) was a Memphis-based blues guitarist and singer, who recorded for the Sun, Savoy and Hi labels in the 50’s and 60’s. Mr. Carter made his way to Memphis after serving in the Army during World War II. He earned his "Big Lucky" sobriquet during that time for his gambling skills. Carter was rediscovered in the late 90’s and became the subject of an award-winning documentary by French filmmaker Marc Oriol.
