Bazoumana Sissoko (1890-1987) (sometimes spelled Banzounama or Banzumana) born blind in the city of Segou, was a famous Malian Jeli and N'goni player. After Independance he was asked to record his repertory. He also composed what would in 1962 become the national anthem of the Republic of Mali. He was very admired as a national treasure by many malians and his music is still played regularly on malian radio to this day. One of his grandsons is the great contemporary N'goni player Bassekou Kouyate.
