About Balungan
Balungan are a hybrid band made up of French avant rock musicians and Indonesian gamelan players. They blend sounds from both cultures to achieve a true melding of styles. The band was formed by drummer Guigou Chenevier, founding member of french Rock In Opposition group Etron Fou Leloublan. The Balungan project began when Chenevier took part in a gamelan workshop in Marseilles followed by a trip to a workshop in Java. Following that first excursion, Chenevier invited his Javanese friends to his home town, and things grew from there.
