Balthasar Arthopius (c.1480 — late July 1534) was a 16th Century German composer. Reyssmann, the noted humanist, lauded the competence of Arthopius' organ playing abilities in a conversation with Speyer. Balthasar additionally wrote works for Christmas and other sacred compositions. The foundational song for his compositions were touched by his imagination exemplified by his use of rhythms and harmony. His tenors carry the melody and he went so far as to set the canon in "Es fiel ein Baur" unusually with the alto.
