Bahru Kegne (born Wegel Tema, Ethiopia in 1929 - died 12 March 2000) was an Ethiopian 'azmari': a combination of a troubadour, a minstrel and a jester. He played the masenqo (a.k.a. masinko) and used drum machine and keyboards on his later recordings. His music has been described as "droney, hypnotic and trance-like". Kegne was hardly known in Europe when, in 1996, he was 'discovered' by members of legendary Dutch punk/avant-garde/world combo, The Ex.
