Arnaut de Maruelh (fl. 1171 - 1190 ) was an Occitan troubadour of humble origins. At first he was a clergyman and later a troubadour of the Viscountesses of Besiers and Carcassonne. He aroused the jealousy of Alfonso II of Aragon and had to go to the court of William VII of Montpellier . Most of the songs are preserved, as well as a teaching and love greetings. His work is marked by a broader culture than that of the other troubadours (Ovid 's Heroides, use of rhetoric in many expressions).
