Born and raised in Charleston, W.Va., she has an undergraduate degree from Duke University and dropped out of two Ph.D. programs later in life. Hundreds of songs basically tell the story of her life for the twenty-some years she has been writing. Her style is an eclectic mix of folk, tin pan alley, rock, blues, country and jazz.
