
Anatol Liadov, also Anatoly Lyadov, (1855-1914) was one of the younger members of the Russian nationalist school of composers. He was a student of Rimsky-Korsakov at the St Petersburg Conservatory in the 1870s, and later taught there. He was regarded as a very original and creative composer who researched Russian folk music and incorporated Russian themes into his compositions. He was also known as a procrastinator. He was the original choice to compose the music for the ballet Firebird
