Amy Alley grew up in a little southern town west of Charlotte NC amidst an interesting blend of transplants brought there by Charlotte's banking merger boom. Growing up surrounded by a diversity of people from larger cities around the world gave a broader world view to Amy's traditional southern background. She was introduced to the music of less traditional artists like Ani Difranco and Melissa Ferrick, which added new depth to her more conventional southern background of bluegrass and singers like Iris Dement
