José Alonso de Torices (Torizes) was born in Benavente (Zamora) around 1635. In 1652 he entered the cathedral of Zamora as a choir boy. In 1654 he was appointed master of the chapel of the cathedral of El Burgo de Osma (Soria). He was ordained a priest in 1658. In 1663 he was elected by opposition master of chapel of Sigüenza and months later of the cathedral of Zamora, a position he held until 1666. Although in this year 1666 he was elected master of the cathedral of Malaga, he did not take office until 1667.
